A HOTEL CHELSEA WEDDING ON FILM
Words do little justice for Kylie and Harry's celebration. Set against iconic New York backdrops such as New York City Hall, Chinatown, and the Hotel Chelsea, they broke nearly every rule in favor of doing things their own way. Artists in the true sense of the word, they saw their wedding as an opportunity to intentionally break rules and express themselves in creative ways including: no assigned seating, no sit down dinner, vintage outfits, 100 year old family heirlooms, personally designed stationary, and a mix of music from dear friends. People and presence was the priority.
They opted for a New York City Hall ceremony weeks before their main celebration, a great option if you're one that doesn't crave being the center or attention or you're planning an unconventional wedding later on. This allowed them to keep things simple and intimate. Just twenty close friends and family were there to celebrate outside the marriage bureau. With the ceremony separate from the reception, it gave them the freedom to focus solely on the celebration.
The celebration continued a few short weeks later at the Hotel Chelsea, a legendary Manhattan landmark with deep ties to the city’s artistic legacy. Kylie and Harry were drawn to the hotel’s rich history, unique interiors, and it's connection to generations of creatives. As artists themselves, this place felt perfect.
They hosted 80 guests across three spaces: The Piano Room, The Solarium Bar, and Cave à Vin. The evening began in the Piano room with live jazz from pianist and friend of the couple Russell Kranes. After a few quick speeches and small bites, the cocktails started flowing and the party kicked off with DJ Bruce Easley (aka Planet B) behind the turntables, another dear friend of Kylie and Harry. Bruce had the dance floor packed all night.
As a photographer, these are the kinds of nights you dream of. Photographing this one of a kind Hotel Chelsea wedding on film just felt right, and I couldn’t imagine a better way to honor the spirit and history of this space. I felt both visually and spiritually nurtured, surrounded by creatives in the same rooms where so many legends had once gathered, it felt almost like a place of worship.
