PORTRAIT SESSIONS

I include a complimentary portrait session with every single wedding because I believe the best way to make meaningful images of people is to spend quality time with them.

I’ve found that photographing people is less about the technical photography stuff and more about simply being a person. I can’t just show up, point my camera, and create something that resonates with you. I can’t photograph something as nuanced as you two or your connection as a stranger. Photography is a collaboration. So I make no assumptions about who you are or your dynamic. In order for me to create images that you truly see yourselves in, I need you to show me who you are.

So what is this? And how does it work? It’s quality time together. Simple as that. I’ll just happen to have my camera on me. We’ll hang in your home. You’ll dress however feels ‘you’. Throw on your favorite record. Have a cocktail or two. Lean into whatever helps you two feel like yourselves. Because the more yourselves you feel, the more comfortable you’ll be, and the more you’ll see yourselves in your photos. And if by the end you’re feeling daring, we can get creative.

Most importantly, this is not an engagement shoot. It’s not a celebration of your engagement. Rather it’s a celebration of your everyday.

I don’t see this as extra work, rather a necessary investment. Which is why we always do this before the wedding. Spending time together in this way always leads to you two being more comfortable in front of the camera. More importantly, when your wedding day finally comes photography will be one less thing to worry about, so you’ll more easily be able to let go and be fully present.

Here’s what it looks like.
